Australian Stories of Social Enterprise

Status: Completed April 2011

Authored by Cheryl Kernot and Joanne McNeill

“Australian Stories of Social Enterprise” was launched on 5 April 2011 by the former Minister for Human Services and Social Inclusion, the Hon Tanya Plibersek MP. The book tells the stories of 32 pioneering Australian social entrepreneurs and their social purpose businesses.

Project objectives

“The aim of the book is to showcase the diversity of the social enterprise model and broaden thinking. It is a vehicle for social enterprise practitioners to tell their stories, and is a snapshot of their perspectives.”

- Cheryl Kernot.

Thirty-five face-to-face interviews with thirty-three organisations were conducted between September 2009 and February 2010, mostly at the social enterprise location. The interviews ranged from one to three hours in length, were audio recorded and in several cases more than one interviewee participated.
