CSI announces two new members of its adjunct team

The Centre for Social Impact at UNSW Sydney is pleased to announce the addition of two more members to its Adjunct team.

Adjunct Professor Abigail Powell continues her relationship with CSI from the University of Lincoln, UK, where she is the Professor of Sociology and Social Policy in the College of Social Science and the Eleanor Glanville Centre. Professor Powell previously worked at CSI in the position of co-research director, alongside Associate Professor Gemma Carey.

Professor Powell remarked that this was a privilege and an honour and was thrilled to continue her relationship with CSI. “Having been at CSI since 2014, it feels like the work of CSI is in my bones. It’s certainly shaped my future career here in the UK. That I get to continue to work with the amazing team, facilitating positive social change and spreading the messages of CSI’s work internationally, really is a pleasure.”

Adjunct Associate Professor Shamal Dass extends his work with CSI from JBWere where he is the Head of Philanthropic Services. Dass has a long-standing relationship with CSI and is a fierce advocate of creating social change by creating better leaders. Most recently, he has worked on developing the Governance for Social Impact course in partnership with CSI and the AGSM@UNSW Business School.

Dass said, “I believe deeply in the mission of CSI. Under Kristy’s leadership, it has evolved from a small research centre to a proven partner for any organisation from any sector interested in creating real lasting positive social change. I am excited by the potential of working with leaders to catalyse powerful change. Becoming an Adjunct Associate Professor is an unexpected and humbling honour – but one I will strive to live up to every day. I’m looking forward to doing the work that is needed”.

Professor Kristy Muir, CSI’s CEO explained what the titles mean to CSI: “More than just a title, being an Adjunct at CSI means that we are strengthening our network with industry and academic leaders who are doing amazing things here and overseas. At CSI’s heart is our desire to create social change, so it’s wonderful that we can add Abigail and Shamal to our cadre, two people I know personally, and I know to be exceptional leaders in their field.”

Powell and Dass join Michael Traill AM who was awarded the title of Adjunct Professor in October 2018.
