Financial Wellbeing Program for Jobs-Focused Social Enterprises - Cycle 1 Evaluation Report

Summary
This report by CSI Swinburne shares findings from the first year of an evaluation of White Box Enterprises’ Financial Wellbeing Program, funded by Ecstra Foundation. The Financial Wellbeing Program is delivered to jobs-focused social enterprises in Australia, with the aim of supporting them to provide tailored training to enhance social enterprise employees’ financial knowledge, confidence and skills.
The first year of this evaluation found several success factors within the program, including:
- excellent foundational content;
- involvement of people with lived experience in program co-design; and
- quality of facilitation
Within the first year of the program, our evaluation found that the Financial Wellbeing Program achieved several key outcomes, including:
- Delivering programs that are tailored and well-suited to the needs of each enterprise, including integration with broader training frameworks.
- Drawing on the co-design to ensure that the content of the program was responsive to different individual situations and contexts of social enterprise employees.
The evaluation also found that the program was immediately helpful for social enterprises in supporting employees faced with challenging situations.
A survey of social enterprise employees who took part in the Financial Wellbeing Program training showed that:
- 83% reported that they could understand the content well and found examples relevant for their situations;
- 83% declared improvement of their knowledge and understanding of multiple money matters; and
- 83% declared their confidence they could manage their money well “got a lot better”.
