Professor Alec Zuo

Professor Alec Zuo is an applied economist and ARC Future Fellow in the College of Business, Government and Law. Professor Zuo’s research specializes in agricultural, environmental, and resource economics. His work addresses critical issues aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Australia’s National Research Priorities, with a focus on understanding how climate change and resource constraints affect irrigation farming, farmer adaptation strategies, and the design and effectiveness of market-based instruments for water resource management.

Professor Zuo’s research has been published in leading international journals such as Global Environmental Change, American Journal of Agricultural Economics, European Review of Agricultural Economics, and Energy Economics. He has collaborated with researchers across more than 20 organizations worldwide, examining agricultural, environmental, and development challenges in 11 countries on four continents. Beyond his academic leadership, he is affiliated with the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training at Flinders University and is part of the Water, Environment, and Food economics policy group.

With extensive experience initiating and managing large-scale research projects, Professor Zuo has secured funding from the Australian Research Council, the Australian National Commission for UNESCO, the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility, the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission, and the Murray-Darling Basin Authority. His work contributes to the development of informed, evidence-based policies and strategies that enhance sustainability, resilience, and equitable resource management.
