Michael Traill

Michael Traill is an Adjunct Professor at the Centre for Social Impact at the University of New South Wales (CSI UNSW).

He is nationally recognised for his leadership and contribution to founding and developing both for-profit and social purpose organisations.

He is the Chair of the Federal Government’s Taskforce on Impact Investing and was the co-founder and Executive Director of Macquarie Group’s private equity arm, Macquarie Direct Investment. Prior to this role he was the founding CEO of Social Ventures Australia, working to alleviate disadvantage through consulting, impact investing, philanthropy, and advocacy.

Michael is also an accomplished author, winning the Ashurst Business Literature Prize in 2017 for his book ‘Jumping Ship – From the world of corporate Australia to the heart of social investment’.

In 2010 Michael was made a member of the Order of Australia in recognition of his services to non-profit organisations.

He holds a BA (Hons) from Melbourne University and an MBA from Harvard University.
