Dr Tran Nguyen

Tran completed a PhD in Sociology at Macquarie University, and an MPhil in Development Studies at the University of Cambridge. Prior to joining CSI, Tran held academic, research and evaluation positions at the University of Sydney, University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety (ANROWS).

Tran’s research interests and expertise include social welfare policies, employment services, employability, cultural competence, workplace diversity, internationalisation in higher education, student equity and women’s safety. She is a mixed methods researcher, with strong expertise in conducting interviews and focus groups, in addition to developing surveys and document analysis. Tran has published her research on leading peer-reviewed journals in the field of social policy and sociology, and co-authored books and book chapters on cultural competence.

She has also undertaken social impact evaluation for different projects and delivered evaluation capacity building for external stakeholders. Through her research and evaluation work, Tran hopes to make an effective contribution to fostering a fair, inclusive, and humane society in Australia and elsewhere.
