David Tang

David Tang is a member of the Water, Environment and Food (WEF) economics policy group in the College of Business, Government and Law.

He joined Flinders University in July 2024, and his current research centers on Australian water studies, as well as exploring the application of new technologies, market behaviors, and consumer decision-making. Prior to his current role, he contributed to research at the South Australian Department for Energy and Mining (DEM), optimizing the placement of renewable energy recharge stations.

David’s PhD (completed May 2023) investigated online market consumer behavior using spatial analysis, big data, and machine learning techniques. He examined diverse domains, including Daigou (informal cross-border e-commerce), e-commerce platform dynamics, and the NFT market. He has also co-authored research in agricultural economics and public policy.

Between 2022 and 2023, David refined his technical skills in applying AI tools to systematic literature reviews at the Centre for Global Food and Resources (GFAR), sharing these insights with HDR students and researchers across multiple Australian universities.

His prior work (2021–2022) focused on the price formation process for online infant formula products, integrating Natural Language Processing (NLP) to assess the impact of user-generated content on pricing. He also analyzed bargaining power dynamics in the NFT crypto market using Ethereum blockchain transaction data. From 2017–2021, David studied the Daigou phenomenon, supporting several projects on Australian agriculture, water policy, park interventions, and Chinese food surveys.

By blending cutting-edge data analytics with multidisciplinary research topics, David Tang’s work informs evidence-based policy, market strategies, and resource management decisions to support sustainable and socially impactful outcomes.
