Social Impact Investment Discussion Panel

Social Impact Investment: Past, Present and Future - challenges and opportunities discussion panel

The Centre for Social Impact's has ended its event calendar with a highly anticipated panel discussion that focused on Social Impact Investing.

Social Impact investing is estimated to reach between US$600 billion and US$1 trillion globally within the next decade. Whilst the market is in the nascent stages of development in Australia and New Zealand, it is seen to have strong potential, estimated to reach $32 billion in Australia by 2022.

With its well established contacts in the impact investing community CSI was able to attract four extremely experienced speakers,  they included:

  • Michael Traill AM, founding CEO of Social Ventures Australia and former Executive Director of Macquarie Group’s private equity arm
  • Letitia Tunmore, Operations Manager, Impact Investing team at Social Ventures Australia
  • Maja Frolich, Senior Policy Officer, Office of Social Impact Investment, Department of Premier and Cabinet, NSW Government
  • Michelle Di Fabio, founder and Managing Director of Strategic Global Advisory (SGA) and CSI Social Impact Investment facilitator.

The panel was chaired by CSI’s Social Impact Investment lecturer Michael Katz.

Over 70  attendees were treated to a very comprehensive and engaging round up of Social Impact Investing in Australia. The general consensus from the panel being that whilst Social Impact Investing is growing in Australia, it is still only a very small part of the total investment sector and that it really needs to more fully integrated into investment strategies in this country.
