Award-winning higher education director, Associate Professor Leanne Piggott, has joined the Centre for Social Impact today as the national Education Director. Associate Professor Piggott will oversee the centre's national post-graduate and undergraduate strategy, program development and courses, lead the centre's team of lecturers and convenors, and will be a vital member of CSI’s executive leadership team.
Before joining CSI, Leanne fulfilled the role of Director – Business Education at the University of Sydney Business School from 2012 to 2016, and prior to that, she upheld various senior leadership and management roles throughout the University of Sydney including the Faculty of Economics and Business, The Centre for International Security Studies, and The United States Studies Centre. Leanne’s decade of higher education experience in program development and teaching includes expertise in flexible learning (e-Learning).
Her initiatives in blended and e-learning have seen her recognised with the Australian College of Educators’ National Teaching Award.
In addition to Leanne’s management and educational expertise she has research interests in the burgeoning field of shared value creation – developing sustainable business models that achieve both social and financial returns - and in how a systems approach can help to understand and address more effectively complex, multi-dimensional and multi-scale problems. Her contribution to knowledge development spans the fields of education, e-learning, international relations, and energy and food security.
Leanne Piggott will build on CSI’s existing portfolio of content rich learning programs including the popular Graduate Certificate in Social Impact, which is offered at the University of New South Wales, Australia, Swinburne University of Technology and The University of Western Australia. She will work in partnership with the AGSM at the UNSW Australia Business School to continue to develop the MBA X (Social Impact), which was launched last year, and will also continue to develop the centre’s undergraduate course offering on Creating Social Change offered at UNSW Australia. The undergraduate course at UNSW Australia has attracted 200 students per semester in 2016.
“I am very much looking forward to joining the CSI team and working with colleagues to further the success of CSI’s programs, which have an excellent reputation for teaching and applied content. Increased enrolments are evidence of the growing interest among students and practitioners in developing the knowledge and skills for effective social impact. I hope to contribute by enhancing greater synergies across the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors in an effort to broaden collective learning and deepen the alignment of our efforts to realise a shared vision for the ‘what, why and how’ of increasing social impact.”
