Contemporary Australia has a remarkable ferment of voluntary endeavour. The not-for-profit sector is growing in economic importance. Levels of corporate community investment are rising as more businesses recognise that their contribution to society may be the key to their long-term sustainability.

The teaching and resourcing of management education in Australia has not yet reflected those trends. The Centre seeks to change that. CSI is committed to socially responsible business management education.

The Centre brings together the committed hearts and business heads of Australia's not-for-profit, philanthropic, private and government sectors around our core values of collaboration, transparency, flexibility and urgency. We are committed to academic excellence fit for social purpose. CSI seeks nothing less than to create a new generation of leaders dedicated to innovation in the pursuit of the long-term sustainability of civil societies.

Our first class business teaching and tailored research draws on the depth of talent in our four partner universities: the University of New South Wales, the University of Melbourne, Swinburne University of Technology and the University of Western Australia. We foster collaborative effort in the common cause of building a more civil society in Australia. Our programs enhance the professional capacity of the women and men who seek to create cultural, social and environmental value whether they are working in social enterprises, private companies or government agencies or contributing as individuals, volunteers or philanthropic investors.

The Centre, based at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, is funded jointly by the Australian Government, philanthropic endowment and corporate contributions.
