CEO's Message

The year is off to a terrific start with the ANZ Public Sector Summit and the Social Innovator Dialogues 'February Festival: Changing the way we govern'.
About 80 leaders from Australia and New Zealand’s public sectors gathered in Torquay for two days last week for the ANZ Public Sector Summit, a collaboration between CSI and our good friends CISCO. The conference featured a series of outstanding international speakers including:
-
Rohan Silva (Special Advisor to the Chancellor of the Exchequer) on the UK’s Big Society initiative
-
Geoff Mulgan (CEO of the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts) on frameworks for and examples of facilitating social innovation
-
Jocelyne Bourgon (formerly the most senior public servant in Canada and now leading a six-country research project) on a new business model for public administration in the 21st Century
-
Dr David Halpern (Senior Fellow at the UK’s Institute for Government, currently on secondment to run the ‘Nudge Office’) on using behavioural science to improve social outcomes
-
Chris Vein (Deputy United States Chief Technology Officer for Government Innovation at the White House) on innovating through technology and open government
-
Tarik Yousef (a leading economist and public administration thinker from Libya) on the Arab Spring and the future
. . . and many more. I was inspired by the presentations and discussions at the conference, and by the potential power of the synergies between the topics presented. Peter Shergold has blogged about the conference and several of the conference speakers also feature in this year’s Social Innovator Dialogues series. You can read more about some of these in the newsletter below.
