Our History

The Centre for Social Impact was established in 2008 under the leadership of our founding Chief Executive Officer, Peter Shergold.

The generous Commonwealth Government endowment of $12.5m was matched by our founding investors: the Macquarie Group Foundation, AMP, National Australia Bank and PwC. We have also been supported by individual donors: Robin Crawford, David Gonski, Warwick Negus and Daniel Petre.

The Centre for Social Impact has undertaken more than 30 research projects with government, business and not-for-profit partners and for five years has provided the nation’s most comprehensive post-graduate program in systems-led social leadership, directed nationally by Cheryl Kernot.

In 2012 the Centre for Social Impact welcomed its new Chief Executive Officer Andrew Young and commenced a strategic review of its vision, mission and goals. This is captured in our Social Impact Framework.

A collaboration of three university partners, the Centre for Social Impact has expanded from its central Sydney-based team to a network of teachers, researchers, communicators and administration teams located at UNSW Australia, Swinburne University of Technology and The University of Western Australia.
